The decision to make the offer follows last Wednesday’s news that the MET Office’s long-term prediction for a ‘barbeque’ summer has now been changed to one of unsettled conditions, but with the prospect of improvements towards the end of the month.

Blue Chip Vacations Managing Director, Alan Taylor, commented; “This summer has been a bumper season for the self-catering market in the South West. Our bookings are up 65 per cent year on year, which is in no small part due to the positive weather outlook predicted at the start of the Summer.

“Our concern is that the recent poor weather may have a negative effect on the late booking market, and so we are putting our money where our mouth is. If it rains for two consecutive days we’ll reimburse late bookers 10 per cent of their holiday fees, providing cash to contribute towards the great range of indoor entertainment that’s on offer within our region. We’ll also be using a ‘sun dancer’ to perform a daily ritual to encourage the sun to shine down on visitors in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.”

Tourism essential to UK economy

As VisitBritain and UKinbound gear up for the third British Tourism Week, 23-29 March 2009, Blue Chip Vacations, the largest provider of luxury 4 & 5 star rated holiday accommodation in the South West, calls for more Government support for the industry.
